Elaine Hartley is a professional actress trained in theatre, film, TV, voiceover work and puppetry. She is an associate artist with Flabbergast Theatre Company, specializing in Bunraku puppetry and physical theatre, creating exciting and dynamic adult comedy through devised work and improvisation.
Elaine is a classically trained singer and pianist. She has composed music for film soundtracks and theatre. She also writes her own songs and has performed at the Bull's Head in Barnes, one of London's top Jazz venues.
Elaine has just returned from an exciting trip to America with puppet rogues Boris & Sergey. The terrible twosome took off to the States in their first official US outing and made a memorable impact on the inhabitants of Wisconsin at the Wisconsin Rapids Community Arts Festival ‘Arti Gras’. We performed our flagship show ‘Boris & Sergey’s Vaudevillian Adventure’ to screams of laughter from our captive audience, and for the more faint of heart, our children’s show ‘Origins’ was met with wonder and delight. We also took part in a poetry slam, were treated to tours of cheese and beer, and our workshops received much interest from fellow performers and non-performers alike.
Boris & Sergey will be performing their ‘Preposterous Improvisation Experiment’ at the Omnitorium, Manor House in June, as part of the first London Clown Festival. The festival is hosted by our Artistic Director, Henry Maynard and runs from 10th-19th June at this wonderful Flabbergast Bus venue in North London. We are also very excited to announce that we shall be taking the Bus to Edinburgh later this year and hosting our very own venue for lots of summer malarkey, clowning and puppetry at the Fringe 2016!
Twice Shy Theatre
Twice Shy embarked upon a roguish trip to Amsterdam in September 2015 to perform at the Amsterdam Fringe in the heart of the Red Light District with their infamous ‘Twice Shy Peep Show’. Outrageous fun was had with the sexy puppet lady in the windows as she tempted and taunted passers by. The Twice Shy team brought along an outstanding team of cabaret performers and hosted an evening of debauchery involving fire acts, story telling, burlesque and of course, puppetry. They hope to return again soon to wreak more havoc amongst the unsuspecting red light goers…
On November 19th, Twice Shy hosted a climate change themed cabaret night at the Hospital Club in Covent Garden entitled ‘Apokalypsis’. Once more a fantastic team of cabaret artists and performers were brought together to celebrate the beauty of our planet and to inspire each other with the desire to look after this world in which we live. Because we only get one. We are hoping to take this Cabaret further with the potential for more development and a future tour.
Twice Shy have several exciting gigs booked in for 2016 which will include various Festivals throughout the summer including Glastonbury, Latitude and Shambala. We are also conversing with our cabaret friends across the pond and hope to make a trip to NYC soon….www.twiceshytheatre.com
